The Sacred Now: Faith and Family in the 21st Century

This mural is painted on the side of the future home of Saint Malachy School in North Philadelphia as a memorial to the Papal Visit and World Meeting of the Families in the city. Over 1,600 people crowded into the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul to hear the historic mass.

The significance of Pope Francis' choice to kick off his tour in Philadelphia is not to be understated. By starting a speaking tour on religious freedom in the birthplace of American freedom, Pope Francis tied closely the importance of religious and secular values. In an increasingly non-religious country, Pope Francis appealed to our deepest roots and values to bring people back to the Church and her mission of hope, service, and love.
